Smith suffered an injury during his camp for the initial fight on June 6, 2026, then stated that he had recovered and resumed training. The nature and severity of this injury are not specified. The recent medical condition of both boxers is not confirmed by an independent report.
Smith scenario: the home advantage, his precision, power, and recent ability to handle an aggressive opponent may allow him to control the distance, exploit orthodox-southpaw exchanges, and counter Puello. Puello scenario: his southpaw stance, mobility, technical approach, and recent activity may disrupt a champion returning from a layoff. The value of Puello’s success against Bolano is limited by the opponent’s level and late replacement; Smith’s mobility after his injury and effectiveness against a southpaw remain unknown. The ring dimensions, Puello’s travel and acclimatization conditions, the referee, the judges, and the local rules are not documented.
Confirmed participants: Dalton Smith, British, orthodox, WBC champion; Alberto Puello, Dominican, southpaw, challenger. The fight is announced at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, on October 24, 2026. The exact fight time and running order remain to be confirmed.
